Daddy Freeze Explains Why He Befriended Fraudster
By Benjamin Abioye

Popular Nigerian media personality, Daddy Freeze, has shed light on why he became friends with convicted internet fraudster and socialite, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, better known as Hushpuppi.
Before Hushpuppi’s arrest in 2020 for internet fraud in the United States, many Nigerians criticized Daddy Freeze for associating with him and showcasing his lavish lifestyle. At the time, he defended himself, saying he only saw Hushpuppi as an influencer and was unaware of his fraudulent activities.
However, in a recent video shared online, Daddy Freeze admitted that he suspected Hushpuppi’s wealth was not legitimate but maintained their friendship for personal reasons.
According to him, Hushpuppi was there for him when others rejected him. He explained, “Hushpuppi has never given me money before, not even $1. But Hushpuppi gave me friendship when nobody wanted to be my friend because they believed I was the devil.”
Daddy Freeze recalled that he first met Hushpuppi during a trip to Dubai, where he was invited alongside other influencers. At the time, he had already started his #FreeTheSheeple movement, which made him unpopular among some influencers and religious groups.
He recounted, “That was the time the church I attended for 10 years rejected me. Everybody rejected me. Then Hushpuppi sent me a DM saying, ‘Where are you? Come over.’”
He further explained that during their first meeting, they hung out with friends, had conversations, and took pictures, which Hushpuppi later shared on Snapchat.
Defending his decision to maintain the friendship, Daddy Freeze questioned why he should turn against someone who stood by him when others didn’t. He acknowledged that he had his doubts about the source of Hushpuppi’s wealth but emphasized the importance of loyalty.
In his words, “I might have guessed that his money was not legit. But Davido in one of his songs said, ‘Dey for who dey for you.’”
