Ex-Gov Slams Seyi Tinubu’s Humilating Food Aid
By Benjamin Abioye

Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has criticized the visit of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, to northern Nigeria, where he distributed food to residents.
Speaking in Hausa during a gathering, Lamido described the initiative as degrading and politically motivated. “You will hear people saying that Arewa is known for bravery and integrity, yet Tinubu is going to Sokoto and Kano, distributing cooked rice to our people,” he said.
He expressed deep dissatisfaction, calling the move a “total humiliation” and questioning whether such an act aligns with good governance. “Is this how to govern or promote good governance? What Tinubu is doing to the northern people is an insult,” he added.
Reflecting on the history of the region, he lamented how the North, which once produced respected leaders like Aminu Kano, Sardauna (Sir Ahmadu Bello), and Tafawa Balewa, is now being reduced to a place where people are simply handed cooked rice.
Lamido urged the people of the region to come together and resist what he described as an attempt to belittle them. “It is up to us to unite and resist this humiliation or fold our hands and allow an outsider to come to our region and belittle us,” he warned. He further encouraged northerners to stand firm, saying, “If we stay on the right track in this country, no one can ever defeat us.”
Seyi Tinubu’s initiative, which took place in multiple northern states, involved distributing food packages during Ramadan, including Danwake, a traditional bean flour dish. The food was packaged in plastic bags featuring images of the President and his son.
However, the gesture sparked widespread criticism, particularly within northern communities. Many viewed it as an attempt to gain political favor amid the region’s ongoing economic challenges.
