By Benjamin Abioye

The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju, has announced that security forces successfully stopped an attempt to vandalize a pipeline in the Ikwerre and Emohua Local Government Areas.
Speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday, Adepoju emphasized the continuous efforts of the police and other security agencies to protect lives and properties. This comes as the state faces rising security concerns.
According to him, a joint operation involving the police and military personnel prevented the attack. The incident happened on March 16, 2025, in Aluu-Rumuekpe, Ikwerre LGA. Security operatives swiftly responded, leading to the deaths of the vandals who were attempting to detonate the pipeline.
“The quick response of the state security agencies at Aluu-Rumuekpe in Ikwerre LGA led to the death of the vandals who were trying to detonate a pipeline,” Adepoju stated.
In another operation on March 21, 2025, security forces raided a kidnappers’ hideout along Omoku Road in Ahoada East LGA. The raid resulted in the arrest of eight suspects and the rescue of six male victims.
“Items recovered during the arrest include two English-made pump action guns, two locally made pistols, four locally made single-barrel guns with assorted rounds and cartridges, three Q-link motorcycles, communication equipment, among other items,” he revealed.
Adepoju also disclosed that on March 19, 2025, two suspects were arrested in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA. They were found in possession of four dynamites, four switches, and detonating pods. These arrests were part of ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities in the state.
Additionally, the police commissioner confirmed the destruction of several illegal refining sites. Security operatives dismantled 30 illegal refining locations, 55 ovens, 20 reservoirs, and 50 dug-out pits. They also seized 100,000 litres of stolen crude oil and about 10,000 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).
“The Rivers Police Command is working in close collaboration with all relevant stakeholders to ensure a peaceful Rivers State,” Adepoju assured.
