The head coach of the Super Eagles, Eric Chelle, has shared his thoughts on why the team’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe will be a tough encounter.

The match is set to take place at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo at 5 p.m. today, March 25. The Super Eagles are coming into this game with confidence after securing a 2-0 win against Rwanda last Friday. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe managed to secure a 2-2 draw against Benin Republic in their last match.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Chelle acknowledged Zimbabwe’s strengths, saying, “This match will not be easy for us because Zimbabwe boasts a talented roster, astute players, and an experienced coach in Michael Nees.”

He also praised his team’s performance in their last match, stating, “I am proud of my players for their performance against Rwanda — it was a challenging match, but they executed our game plan effectively.”

Chelle highlighted the importance of preparation, noting, “We had a productive training session yesterday, and we need to carry that momentum onto the pitch again to ensure we are well-prepared for the game tomorrow.”

He also recognized the tactical abilities of Zimbabwe’s coach, saying, “This coach has a well-defined game strategy, which we must respect and prepare for with our utmost focus.”

Beyond the upcoming match, Chelle expressed his determination to establish a winning mentality in the team. Having started his tenure with a victory, he is eager to maintain that momentum.

“I’ve had discussions with my players and made it clear that my goal is to win every match we play. My concentration is firmly on the upcoming game against Zimbabwe. Once that match concludes, we can shift our focus to the subsequent challenges,” he stated.

The World Cup qualifier between Nigeria and Zimbabwe is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. today, March 25.
