INEC Takes New Decision On Natasha’s Recall
By Benjamin Abioye

INEC has confirmed that it has received the missing contact details of representatives behind the petition to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from office.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that it has now received the necessary contact details of the representatives behind the petition to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central.
Earlier, INEC acknowledged receiving the petition but stated that it did not meet the required standards. According to the commission, the petitioners had failed to provide their contact addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses in the cover letter, which is a requirement under Clause 1(f) of INEC’s Regulations and Guidelines.
Providing an update, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information & Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, announced that the missing details had now been submitted in a letter addressed to the commission’s chairman on March 26, 2025.
He stated, “As provided in Clause 2(a) of the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Recall 2024, a letter has been written to notify the Senator sought to be recalled about the receipt of the petition and delivered to her official address. The same letter has been copied to the presiding officer of the Senate and published on the Commission’s website.”
With this step completed, INEC will now verify the list of signatories to determine whether more than 50% of registered voters in the constituency have signed the petition.
This verification process will take place in the coming days, and according to Olumekun, the results will be made public. The findings will determine the next course of action by the commission.
INEC has assured the public that the process will remain transparent and open to all.
