How I Survived Heart Attack On Stage – T.D. Jakes
By Benjamin Abioye

TD Jakes has recalled suffering a massive heart attack while preaching, unaware that only half of his heart had been functioning.
The Senior Pastor of the Potter’s House in Dallas, Texas, TD Jakes, has shared his experience of a heart attack he faced last year during a church service.
The 67-year-old was preaching in his church last November when he suddenly stopped speaking, lowered the microphone, and began shaking. The unexpected incident caused panic, and church officials quickly helped him off the stage.
In an interview with American broadcaster Craig Melvin on the TODAY show, Jakes revealed that he had suffered a massive heart attack.
He explained that he did not feel any usual signs of a heart attack at the time. However, doctors later told him that he had been preaching with only half of his heart functioning.
“I didn’t really realize what was happening to me onstage until I got to the hospital in an ambulance and fussing that it happened onstage, by the way, because I didn’t want it to happen, and the doctor leaned over my ear and said, ‘You had a massive heart attack,’” Jakes recalled.
He further explained that he experienced none of the common symptoms. “No numbness, no sharp pain, no anything. I just kind of drifted off to sleep. I didn’t know what it was, but I almost died,” he said.
According to the doctor, if the attack had happened just five minutes later, he would not have survived. “(The doctor) said five minutes later, I’d have been dead on arrival,” Jakes recounted.
He also revealed how severe the situation was. “The right side of my heart had completely stopped getting blood at all,” he said.
Jakes explained that he felt fine while preaching, but the moment he sat down, his adrenaline levels dropped, revealing the severity of the situation. “As long as I was up preaching, I felt fine. But when I sat down, the adrenaline dropped, and it exposed the fact that I was preaching with half of my heart closed through a clot. And they had to go get it,” he shared.
