Food Prices Some States

The cost of essential food items in Nigeria has continued to fluctuate, with some prices rising while others have dropped.

Market surveys show that the prices of rice, beans, tomatoes, and other staple foods vary across different regions due to several factors, including supply and demand.

A 50kg bag of rice now sells for anywhere between ₦62,000 and ₦120,000, depending on the brand and location. In some areas, consumers have seen a slight reduction in price, while in others, costs remain high.

For tomatoes, a small basket is priced around ₦3,500, but in some places, it can go as high as ₦9,000. The cost of tomatoes often depends on the season and the region where they are sold.

Yam prices have also changed. A large tuber is currently sold for about ₦2,500 in markets such as Abuja and Onitsha. Meanwhile, a 60kg bag of garri now costs ₦37,500, showing a decrease compared to previous months.

The price of protein sources like chicken and beef has remained high. One kilogram of chicken is now sold for approximately ₦4,000, while boneless beef costs around ₦6,000 per kilogram. However, prices vary depending on the market location.

As food prices continue to shift, consumers are feeling the impact on their daily expenses, with many adjusting their budgets to cope with the ongoing changes in the market.
