A Nigerian businesswoman, Tracynither Nicolas Ohiri, has accused the Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, of refusing to pay her N200 million for promotional items she supplied during his 2014 governorship campaign.

In a viral social media video, Ohiri alleged that Umahi deliberately withheld the payment because she rejected his sexual advances. She claimed that despite Umahi’s assurances that he would settle the debt after winning the election, he later attempted to turn their business relationship into a personal affair. When she refused, he allegedly cut off communication and refused to pay her.

According to Ohiri, Umahi initially pleaded with her to be patient, claiming he had approached then-President Goodluck Jonathan for campaign funds. However, after assuming office as governor, Umahi reportedly changed his approach and began making romantic advances.

“When I supplied him with the goods, he told me that he did not have money, but that I should not worry. As soon as he finished contesting for the governorship election and won, he would repay me. But when I started demanding my money, he began asking me out,” she alleged.

She further claimed that after rejecting him multiple times, Umahi became offended and told her, ‘Do you know that since I was born, no woman has said no to me?’ She insisted that their relationship remain strictly business, at which point he allegedly blocked her and stopped responding to her calls.

Ohiri stated that for almost 11 years, her financial situation has deteriorated due to the withheld funds. She has repeatedly taken to social media, staging protests and demanding justice.

In an emotional appeal, Ohiri directly called out Umahi, stating that his wife, children, and mother know she is telling the truth. She also expressed fears of being arrested or silenced by security forces but vowed not to give up until she receives her payment.

“Engr David Umahi, you know that I am not lying. Your wife knows that I am not lying. Your children know that I am not lying. Your mother knows that I am not lying. I know you have the power, the money, and the government to lock me up, but I am ready to die for this,” she said in one of her protest videos.

The businesswoman also highlighted the disparity in their financial situations, claiming that while Umahi’s son flies around in private jets, she has been struggling to survive due to the loss of her business capital.

“Give me my money. I am a mother with children. I see your son flying private jets. The money your son is using to fly private jets is enough for you to pay me. You withheld my capital. I am a nursing mother; I need my payment. I have waited enough for nine years.”

During her protests, she displayed placards expressing concerns that security agents might come after her, but she insisted that she would not be intimidated. One of the placards read: “Nigerians, help me. Because very soon now, they will send DSS to come and arrest me. Their government is in power; they will come and attack me. But I am ready to die for this because I have waited for nine years. This man owes me.”

Ohiri has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and compel Umahi to settle the debt.

“His Excellency Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and a father to all Nigerian women, wives, and mothers, please, sir, come to my help. Nigerians have advised me to reach out to you. Please, His Excellency sir, help me call Engr David Umahi to order so he can pay me my business capital. Nine years is not nine days.”

She maintained that Umahi received the promotional items at his residence in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, during his campaign.

“Engr David Nweze Umahi, the current Minister of Works, owes me N200 million for the promotional gift items produced for him in 2014, which were offloaded and received in his house in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, for his gubernatorial election,” she said.

Meanwhile, GWG.ng reports that Umahi is not the only political figure linked to such allegations. Senate President Godswill Akpabio is also facing a similar controversy.

In February 2025, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Akpabio of sexual harassment, alleging that he made inappropriate advances towards her during a visit to his residence in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on December 8, 2023.

She claimed that Akpabio insinuated that she should “take care of him” in exchange for the consideration of her motions in the Senate. Akpabio denied the allegations, asserting that he had always upheld respect for women and was raised by a single mother. He dismissed the claims as baseless and unfounded.

Shortly after making the allegations, Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended from the Senate for six months, with the Senate leadership citing “violations of legislative decorum.” However, women’s rights groups have condemned the suspension, sparking nationwide protests under the banner “We Are All Natasha.”

As Ohiri continues her fight for justice, the public awaits a response from Umahi, who has remained silent on the allegations.
