Nwaeke Fubara Etche Leaders

Etche leaders have publicly disowned former Rivers HoS Nwaeke after he accused Governor Fubara of working with militants and destroying the Assembly, labeling his allegations false and influenced by politics.

The Etche people in Rivers State have publicly rejected the accusations made by George Nwaeke, a former Head of Service, against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In a press conference held in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Etche leaders called Nwaeke a liar and a betrayer, stating that his claims were false and influenced by external forces. They criticized his unstable character and explained that he was often excluded from important community discussions because of his erratic behavior.

Nwaeke had earlier accused Governor Fubara of being involved in the destruction of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex, suggesting it was an attempt to prevent his impeachment. He also alleged that the governor worked with militants and paid his former Chief of Staff, Dr. Edison Ehie, to carry out the demolition. However, Etche leaders strongly rejected these accusations, asserting that Nwaeke’s claims were part of a plot by political sponsors in Abuja to damage the governor’s reputation.

Ogbonna Nwuke, a former member of the House of Representatives and a leader of the Etche group, said, “We want to make it clear that Nwaeke’s allegations are baseless. His claims are nothing but lies influenced by external political forces. He is simply trying to please his paymasters in Abuja.” The leaders also revealed that, prior to making his allegations, Nwaeke had approached the Chief of Staff of Rivers State Government House, seeking financial help in exchange for his support.

Nwuke added, “His insatiable hunger for financial gain is the only explanation for his unfounded allegations against the Governor. He is simply trying to please those who are financially backing him.” The group also pointed out contradictions in Nwaeke’s statements, including discrepancies between his account of events and his wife’s testimony, further undermining his credibility.

The Etche leaders have called for an investigation into Nwaeke’s actions, urging security agencies to hold him accountable for allegedly spreading false information about the governor and other prominent figures in Rivers State. They emphasized that such actions should not be tolerated, as it sets a dangerous precedent for spreading lies for political or financial gain.

In addition to addressing Nwaeke’s allegations, the Etche group voiced their opposition to the state of emergency declared in Rivers State, which led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. The leaders appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconsider the decision, warning that it could exacerbate political tensions and harm the state’s interests.
