Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, a 15-year-old Nigerian artist, has set a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for creating the largest painting ever made by an individual.
His record-breaking artwork, titled “Impossibility is a Myth,” was unveiled in Abuja on April 2, 2025, to coincide with the World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD).
The massive painting, which spans 12,303 square meters, is more than twice the size of a football field and beats the previous record by nearly 3,000 square meters. The unveiling ceremony took place at Eagles’ Square and was attended by civil society groups, diplomats, traditional rulers, government officials, and prominent figures in the arts and culture sector.
During the event, Tagbo-Okeke was presented with his official Guinness World Record certificate. The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, praised the young artist, calling his achievement a “historic and inspiring milestone.” She highlighted that this accomplishment proves that age and challenges are not obstacles to success and emphasized that every Nigerian, regardless of background or disability, has the potential to contribute greatly.
Kanyeyachukwu’s father, Mr. Tagbo Okeke, shared that his son’s journey began with a love for colors and a structured routine that helped him focus. He also explained that the theme of the artwork, “Impossibility is a Myth,” reflected the many challenges they faced while creating such a large painting.
Dr. Mohamed Fall, the UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, was represented at the event by Cristian Munduate of UNICEF. Munduate stressed the importance of disability inclusion in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ensuring equal opportunities for people with disabilities.
Senator Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central Senatorial District, also spoke at the event. He applauded Kanyeyachukwu’s achievement, noting that children with autism could be productive members of society if given the proper education and care. He urged the government to invest more in the education of children with autism.
Chikaodi Ofoegbu, the Head of Retail at MTN Nigeria, also delivered remarks, emphasizing the importance of creating an environment that fosters innovation and inclusivity. He encouraged Nigerians to nurture these values to promote a more inclusive society.
This record-setting achievement by Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke highlights both the talent of young Nigerians and the importance of recognizing and supporting the potential of individuals, regardless of disability.
