Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has admitted to feeling depressed following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in the state.

Tinubu had in a nationwide broadcast on March 18, 2025, announced a state of emergency in Rivers State due to the prolonged political crisis in the state among other reasons. The decision led to the suspension of Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly for an initial six-month period. Former Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), was appointed as the sole administrator of the state.

Speaking on Monday, March 31, during a meeting with Muslim leaders at his private residence in Port Harcourt, Fubara admitted that the situation had taken an emotional toll on him and his team.

“We, as humans, might feel a bit depressed because of the situation. Maybe because of what we are seeing, but we might not understand that something deeper and beyond us has happened,” he stated.

Despite his feelings, the embattled governor maintained a hopeful outlook, urging his supporters to remain steadfast.

“But in everything, we have decided to give glory to the Almighty God. This season is one of love, sharing, and sacrifice. You have come to share in our pain and have made a great sacrifice through your prayers,” Fubara told the gathering.

He emphasized that every challenge has a purpose, expressing confidence that the ongoing crisis would ultimately lead to something greater.

“If God could be patient with Noah to allow even the snail to enter the Ark, then patience remains an essential virtue in our struggle,” he added.
