Umahi reopens Independence Bridge

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has reopened Lagos’ Independence Bridge, following safety concerns and repairs.

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has officially reopened the Independence Bridge in Lagos for traffic use after it was closed due to safety concerns.

The bridge had been shut down following reports of significant structural damage that made it unsafe for vehicular movement. This closure, which lasted for several days, caused severe traffic disruptions across the city, with commuters facing long delays and frustration.

In a statement to newsmen, Umahi explained that intensive work was carried out overnight to restore the bridge, ensuring that it could safely accommodate traffic once again. However, he also mentioned that permanent repair work would begin in the next three weeks to fully address the structural issues and ensure the bridge’s long-term stability.

The reopening comes as a relief to Lagos residents who have had to navigate alternative routes during the closure.
