Court Stops Controversial Pro-Wike Rally
By Benjamin Abioye

The Bayelsa State High Court in Yenagoa has granted an interim order stopping a planned rally in support of FCT Minister Wike, set for April 12, 2025.
A High Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, has stopped a planned rally meant to support the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The event, organized by a group known as NEW Associates, was supposed to take place in Yenagoa on April 12, 2025.
The court gave this order after the Attorney General of Bayelsa State, Biriyai Dambo (SAN), filed a legal request. The judge, Hon. Justice I.A. Uzakah, granted a temporary order through a Motion Ex-Parte in Suit No. BYHC/YHC/CV/133/2025.
Those named in the case include Mr. George Turnah, who was the main organizer of the rally, and Minister Nyesom Wike. Both were listed as the first and second defendants. Also listed in the case were the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Commissioner of Police for Bayelsa State.
The court ruled: “An order of the interim injunction is hereby made or granted restraining the 1st and 2nd Defendants, whether by themselves, their agents, associates, privies, representatives (or any person whatsoever acting at their behest), from conducting, convening, coordinating, engaging in, organising, participating in, holding, hosting, or facilitating any political assembly, rally, meeting, or gathering within Bayelsa State, for the purpose of solidarity, hosting, and celebrating the 2nd Defendant in Bayelsa State, pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice for Interlocutory Injunction.”
The matter has been postponed to April 11, 2025, for the court to hear the main request for a more permanent order.
