Enzo Fernandez’s Header Seals Chelsea’s Win Over Tottenham
By Benjamin Abioye

Chelsea got the better of Tottenham in yet another heated London derby, taking a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge on Thursday. It wasn’t the prettiest game, but Chelsea didn’t care—they took the three points and showed once again that they’re top dogs in the capital.
The only goal of the game came in the second half when Enzo Fernandez nodded in a perfect cross from Cole Palmer. The midfielder made no mistake, powering the ball into the net and sending Chelsea fans into celebration mode.
Tottenham, on the other hand, couldn’t catch a break. Manager Ange Postecoglou made a bit of history for all the wrong reasons—becoming the first Spurs boss to lose his first four league meetings against Chelsea. Ouch.
The drama didn’t stop there. Spurs thought they had leveled the score when Pape Matar Sarr unleashed a powerful long-range shot past Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez. But, of course, VAR stepped in and called it off for a foul on Moises Caicedo just before the shot. Tottenham fans were left fuming, and who could blame them? It was a tough call.
Chelsea almost got off to a dream start, with Nicolas Jackson’s shot deflecting off the post in the opening minute. The first half was full of excitement but not much in terms of clear chances—both teams had goals ruled out, and things were definitely getting heated as the halftime whistle blew.
After Fernandez’s goal, Chelsea thought they had doubled their lead when Caicedo smashed in a volley. But once again, VAR ruined the fun, calling it offside. It was one of those nights where it felt like nothing was going Tottenham’s way.
Spurs kept pushing late into the game, with Brennan Johnson sending a cross into the box in the 89th minute for Son Heung-min. But it was just another chance wasted as Chelsea held firm to seal the win.
This defeat leaves Tottenham’s hopes of finishing in the top four looking more and more unlikely, while Chelsea continues to gain ground, slowly climbing closer to their rivals in the league.
