Nigerian skit maker, Ijoba Lande, has made a public U-turn regarding the viral statement he made about being paid ₦90,000 for a month-long job on a project associated with actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele.

In a new video that surfaced online, Ijoba Lande was seen lying on the floor, tearfully begging and clarifying his earlier statement. According to him, the viral clip circulating on social media was misleading and edited to remove key parts of his explanation.

He said, “What I said was misunderstood. I didn’t mean it the way people are spreading it. The part where I corrected myself was cut out. I said ₦90k at first, but I later said it was actually ₦191k.”

Ijoba Lande explained that the initial statement came up during a TikTok discussion where he was shedding light on how some producers allegedly shortchange upcoming actors without the knowledge of the main project owners. He revealed that he used his experience with one of Funke Akindele’s producers as an example, and that he never accused Akindele herself.

He added that after the incident, Funke Akindele called him directly to ask about what happened. He said she was surprised to hear what he was paid and expressed concern that he hadn’t reached out to her directly. “She told me I should have informed her. She later said they should start paying me ₦50k to ₦55k daily. She’s a good person,” he said.

The skit maker went further to plead with Akindele not to press charges over the situation, reiterating that during the TikTok live, everyone had spoken positively about her, but bloggers only posted the part that sparked outrage.

His video has stirred reactions online, with many criticizing his behavior.

@TheTifeFab tweeted, “He deserves jail tbh, telling lies for clout.”

@Timmydennyd added, “Wetin be dis nau!! This guy is just another discovery.. like is he not depressed or bothered about his marriage or his life.”

@Ayam_Emmy wrote, “This is why you must always speak with sense. Not everything should be content.”

@FolakeJr said, “He’s just messed with the wrong person. Funke is loved and respected. This will haunt him.”

@OjuelegbaPrince posted, “Bro wanted attention and now he’s crying for forgiveness. Hope others learn from this.”

The controversy has sparked ongoing conversations about integrity, social media clout, and how online narratives can be shaped by selective editing.
