Video: Reactions As Ijoba Lande Reveals What Illiteracy Cost Him Working For Funke Akindele
By Benjamin Abioye

Ijoba Lande has revealed that he earned just N90,000 after spending a month working on Funke Akindele’s movie, a claim that has drawn mixed reactions from social media users.
Nigerian comedian and actor, Ijoba Lande, has sparked online reactions after revealing that he was paid only N90,000 for a month-long movie role with popular actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele.
He made this revelation during a TikTok live video, expressing his disappointment over the experience.
According to Lande, he was excited when Akindele contacted him for a movie production at Amen Estate. Wanting to prove that he was not after money, he chose not to bill her. However, upon arrival, he met a female producer who presented a contract for him to sign. Due to his lack of literacy, he signed the document without fully understanding its terms. The contract stipulated a monthly payment of N90,000, which he only realized when he received the same amount at the end of the month.
Lande explained that he was speaking out to prevent upcoming actors from falling into similar situations. Unlike before, he now insists on naming his price when approached for roles.
His statement triggered widespread reactions on social media, with many users criticizing his decision to sign the contract without proper understanding. Some felt that Funke Akindele had done no wrong since he willingly agreed to the terms.
A Twitter user, @seanelhadji, wrote:
“One thing that will be an undoing of my generation is the insatiable crave for instant gratification. She gave you a contract, you signed without coercion, you agreed, and she fulfilled her end.”
Another user, @iwologbon, commented:
“Of course, he’s an illiterate like he described himself. I was taking him seriously until he said they gave him a document to sign which clearly stated he would be paid 90k in a month. Signing such a document means you agree to the terms.”
Others mocked Lande’s complaints, with @king_uthy saying:
“At the end of the day, school is not a scam!”
Meanwhile, some sympathized with him, arguing that he deserved better pay. @YourVillagePeople noted:
“So many people will hate this guy for speaking the truth. Most people are users.”
Ijoba Lande’s revelation comes amid growing concerns in the Nigerian entertainment industry about fair wages and contract transparency, especially for lesser-known actors. While some believe his story is a cautionary tale for upcoming actors to understand contract terms before signing, others argue that he should have handled the issue privately rather than making it public.
