Bobrisky Traditional Ruler Prison

A traditional ruler in Lagos, Chief Babalola Shabi, who is the Baale of Kirikiri Town, has accused some officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service of helping social media personality, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, to get special treatment while in prison.

Chief Shabi made this allegation during a town hall meeting organized by the Lagos State Police Command as part of the National Police Week celebration.

According to him, Bobrisky was able to bring eight Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards into the Kirikiri Correctional Centre. He claimed that Bobrisky used these ATM cards to transfer ₦35 million through Point of Sale (POS) agents, allegedly to bribe prison officials.

He said, “Before the truth came out, everyone believed he was in Kirikiri serving his time. But the reality is that Bobrisky was living comfortably outside the prison walls, thanks to a criminal collaboration involving some officials.”

Chief Shabi further explained that Bobrisky did not stay in prison throughout his sentence. Instead, he alleged that some corrupt prison officers arranged a private apartment outside the prison for Bobrisky.

He said he personally investigated the matter by calling all the POS operators in the area to his palace. He said after that, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stepped in to trace the money transactions.

“I personally called in the EFCC after I summoned the POS operators to my palace. From there, they were able to trace the transactions and decode the money trail,” he said.

He added that the correctional officers contacted POS agents to help Bobrisky withdraw money from his ATM cards easily, showing that there was a well-organized group behind the act.

“It was shocking how ₦35 million could be sourced from around here so quickly. Clearly, this was not a one-man job. The officials who aided him have been suspended,” Shabi said.

He also revealed that the house where Bobrisky was allegedly staying during that period had been identified and demolished. He mentioned that both the Department of State Services (DSS) and EFCC invited him for questioning over the issue.

“The DSS first invited me for questioning, and I told them everything I knew. The EFCC also reached out, and I gave them my full cooperation. As a community leader, I cannot allow this type of impunity to go unchecked,” he said.

However, this new revelation contradicts an earlier report by a National Assembly committee, which claimed that although Bobrisky enjoyed special treatment, he stayed within the prison premises for the duration of his sentence.
