Former World Cup Star Passes Away After Heart Attack

Former Colombia international Jorge Eladio Bolano Correa has passed away at the age of 47.

His death was confirmed by local media on Sunday.

Reports from the Bogota newspaper ‘El Tiempo’ revealed that Bolano suffered a sudden heart attack while attending a family member’s birthday party. He was immediately rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment, but sadly, he did not survive.

Bolano had a distinguished football career, playing for several clubs, including Parma, Modena, Lecce, and Sampdoria. Known for his skill as a midfielder, he was praised for his ability to control the game’s tempo. Beyond club football, he earned 36 caps for the Colombian national team and was part of the squad for the 1998 FIFA World Cup, representing his country on the global stage.

The Colombian Football Federation expressed its sadness in a statement, saying: “With deep sorrow, we extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Jorge Eladio Bolano Correa, a former player of the Colombian Men’s National Team, a dedicated professional soccer player, and a respected coach. His passing on Sunday, April 6, in the city of Cucuta, leaves an irreplaceable void for those who knew and admired him.”
