Mikel Obi Reveals Why Chelsea Should Sign Victor Osimhen

Former Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi, has called on the West London club to reignite their pursuit of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, saying the Napoli forward’s passion for the Blues and admiration for Didier Drogba make him the perfect fit.
Speaking on the Obione Podcast, Mikel expressed his disappointment over Chelsea’s failed attempt to secure Osimhen last summer, despite the player’s interest in joining the club.
“Listen, it will be really sad if we don’t get a player who supported us as a kid and wants to play for this football club,” Mikel said.
“His idol is Drogba. He will want to break records, win us trophies, get us back to the top, come for Drogba’s records. I’m telling you, that would be his mission.”
Mikel also hinted that Chelsea still have a direct line to the Napoli striker and could revive negotiations if they choose to.
“If the club chooses not to pursue it, then fair enough, good luck to them. But the good thing about it is we know where we left it; we can literally pick the phone up and get him straight in the door. Get him in!”
Osimhen, who reportedly demanded a high wage package last summer, has continued to prove his value. The Super Eagles star is currently enjoying a successful loan stint at Turkish giants Galatasaray, where he has scored 27 goals and provided five assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.
Despite Chelsea’s continued search for a top striker to support Nicolas Jackson, reports suggest the club’s current management under Enzo Maresca is not considering Osimhen as a summer target.
The 25-year-old remains one of the most prolific Nigerian forwards in Europe and has repeatedly expressed his admiration for Chelsea and idol Didier Drogba — a connection Mikel Obi believes the club should not ignore.
