Tension has gripped the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK) community following the abduction of a student and the killing of a Fulani cattle rearer during a late-night attack by unknown gunmen at Unguwar Jaji in Kalgo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The incident reportedly occurred around 3 a.m. on Tuesday at Istijaba Hostel, a popular off-campus residence in the area. The assailants stormed the premises while students were asleep, forcefully breaking into rooms before abducting Augustine Madubiya, an Economics student of the university.

Tragically, a local cattle rearer, who was said to be grazing his cows nearby, was shot multiple times during the chaos. He was immediately rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of FUBK, Jamilu Muhammad, said the university is in close communication with security agencies and is actively monitoring developments surrounding the abduction.

Police spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, also confirmed the attack, adding that the Divisional Police Officer of Kalgo Division has mobilized a tactical team to track down the perpetrators and secure the safe release of the abducted student.
