Tinubu Mourns Pascal Dozie

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Chief (Dr.) Pascal Gabriel Dozie, a distinguished elder statesman, entrepreneur, and banker. Chief Dozie, who was 85 years old, was the founder of Diamond Bank and the first chairman of MTN Nigeria.

His death marks a significant loss to both the Nigerian business community and the country at large.

In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, shared on his X handle, President Tinubu extended his heartfelt condolences to the Dozie family and to all Nigerians. The statement highlighted Chief Dozie’s visionary leadership and his immense contributions to the development of Nigeria’s economic and business sectors.

The President described Chief Dozie as a key figure in Nigeria’s growth, particularly in the banking and telecommunications industries. “Chief Pascal Dozie was a rare breed business leader whose wisdom, humility, and pioneering efforts laid a foundation upon which many continue to build,” President Tinubu said in the statement. He further acknowledged Dozie’s unwavering belief in Nigeria’s potential, noting that his efforts were pivotal in shaping both the banking sector and the mobile connectivity industry across the nation.

In addition to his business accomplishments, Chief Dozie held significant positions that influenced national policy. He was a former director at the Central Bank of Nigeria, the president of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, and the chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group. These roles allowed him to contribute actively to the formulation of policies that benefited Nigeria’s economic and private sector growth.

President Tinubu urged the Nigerian private sector to honor Chief Dozie’s memory by upholding the values he represented — integrity, innovation, and commitment to nation-building. “His passing is a profound loss to the private sector and Nigeria,” he added.

The President also expressed his prayers for Chief Dozie’s soul and sent condolences to his wife, children, and the extended family. He concluded by calling on Nigerians to reflect on the late business icon’s legacy and continue his work of promoting economic development and youth empowerment in the country.
