MTN Sends Message On Discontinued Popular Tariff Plan

In a message sent to BetaTalk subscribers, MTN stated: “Y’ello! Your current tariff plan will be decommissioned, and you’ll be moved to BetaGist by April 14, 2025. To migrate to other plans, simply dial 1232#.”

This marks a renewed push by the telecom company—MTN to phase out the long-running BetaTalk plan, which many users have grown accustomed to for its airtime bonus and affordability.

Interestingly, GWG.ng reports that this is not the first time MTN has announced the discontinuation of BetaTalk. In March, the company sent a similar message to customers, hinting at an impending phase-out of the plan. However, that decommissioning was later shelved without explanation, leaving subscribers confused and uncertain.

With the latest notice, MTN appears to be taking a firmer stance on the switch, offering users the option to migrate to alternative tariff plans if they do not wish to be automatically moved to BetaGist.

As of now, details about the benefits or differences between BetaTalk and BetaGist remain unclear, and customers have taken to social media to express concerns about the transparency and timing of the move especially at a time when customers are facing higher percentage hike in data subscription price.

MTN has yet to release an official statement explaining the reason behind the discontinuation of BetaTalk or what users should expect from BetaGist.
