NPFL Takes Action Over Shooting Stars’ Fans’ Attack On Ikorodu City Players
By Benjamin Abioye

The NPFL has taken action after a troubling incident in which Shooting Stars fans attacked Ikorodu City players and caused damage to their team bus during their recent match.
Tension flared at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on April 6 as Shooting Stars SC (3SC) faced Ikorodu City FC in a match that ended 0-0 but sparked chaos off the pitch.
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has slapped Shooting Stars with a ₦5 million fine following violent incidents caused by their supporters. Fans have also been banned from attending future home matches at the stadium until further notice.
The trouble began when Shooting Stars fans took matters into their own hands, holding Ikorodu City players hostage and damaging their team bus. A subsequent investigation revealed that the club failed to ensure proper security or manage supporter conduct, leading to the violent altercation.
The NPFL’s ruling stated, “You are in breach of Rule C9 of the Frameworks and Rules of the Nigeria Premier Football League. On April 6, 2025, during Match Day 32, you did not ensure the proper conduct of your supporters, resulting in the incident involving the away team.”
Shooting Stars now have 48 hours to decide whether to accept the penalty or file an appeal.
Meanwhile, Ahmed Musa has returned to training with Kano Pillars ahead of their upcoming match against Lobi Stars on Match Day 33. The 32-year-old forward had missed recent matches after a trip to Saudi Arabia but is now back in action, having scored six goals so far this season.
However, Shehu Abdullahi will not be available for the match after missing training due to personal matters. He is expected to return for the team’s next match against Enyimba. Kano Pillars are currently 9th in the league with 44 points from 32 games.
