Plateau attacks

Jos – Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has urged citizens not to let down their vigilance in the face of the ongoing threats in communities and stated surveillance has been stepped up to curb further attacks.

Mutfwang disclosed this on Tuesday during a Television interview where he added that more security personnel and assets have been deployed to the areas of Plateau State to curtail further attacks.

He commended the efforts of President Bola Tinubu in tackling insecurity in the State and commended Nigerians for the outpouring of sympathy following last week’s killing of over 50 people in communities in the Bokkos local government area.

Mutfwang, who insisted that terrorist organizations are carrying out genocide in the State, pointed out that the area where these attacks take place is rich in mineral deposits and is also deeply involved in food production.

His words, “… What I can tell Nigerians is that we have stepped up our surveillance. We have added more men to the areas and we are deploying more assets to those areas. I want to place on record the concern of Mr. President.

“Thank you, Nigerians for the outpouring of sympathy and concern over these dastardly attacks that have been vested upon the people of my State… We have no report whatsoever that any of these communities looked for trouble before this was unleashed on them.

“So, you begin to ask yourself, what is the motive? And at this point, I have no option but to conclude that these are terrorist organizations that have been unleashed upon the people.

“And what is the target? One thing we know about the area where these attacks took place, and the people who have been displaced is that different sorts of food produce come out from there. It’s also very rich in mineral deposits.”

The governor, however, observed, “Over the years, where there are mineral deposits. There’s a deliberate attempt to push out the people so that the land can be taken over.”

Governor Mutfwang mentioned the efforts he has taken in restoring normalcy and ensuring food production on the Plateau despite the attacks.
