Football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has taken a bold step into the film industry. He has partnered with well-known British filmmaker Matthew Vaughn to co-found a new independent film production company, UR•MARV. The company is already preparing two high-energy action films, with a third one in development.
While the financial details of their 50-50 venture remain undisclosed, their partnership is part of a growing trend where streaming services like Netflix and Disney+ are supporting independent studios, providing a platform for unique stories to reach a global audience.
Speaking about this new venture, Ronaldo shared his excitement, saying, “This is an exciting chapter for me, as I look ahead to new ventures in business.” Vaughn, known for his innovative filmmaking, praised Ronaldo, saying, “Cristiano has created stories on the pitch that I could never have written, and I look forward to creating inspiring movies with him – he’s a real-life superhero.”
At 40, Ronaldo has built a diverse business empire, including investments in hospitality, manufacturing, and media. He owns a hotel chain, a Portuguese porcelain company, a media firm, and recently acquired a tennis and padel club in Lisbon. Additionally, he has expressed interest in owning football clubs after his playing days are over.
Even as he expands his business interests, Ronaldo remains a dominant figure on the football field. He currently plays for Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr with a reported annual salary of $200 million. However, he has not yet revealed his retirement plans.
Matthew Vaughn, the visionary director behind hits like ‘Kick-Ass’ and ‘X-Men: First Class’, is renowned for his unique approach to action films, blending sleek visuals, dynamic storytelling, and humor with high-stakes drama. His breakthrough came with the ‘Kingsman’ franchise, a stylish spy saga. Vaughn’s latest film, ‘Argylle’ (2024), starring Henry Cavill and Bryce Dallas Howard, further solidifies his reputation in the industry.
Ronaldo’s move into the film industry marks another impressive milestone in his career, showing that his influence goes far beyond football.
