2027: El-Rufai Taunts Tinubu’s Camp After Buhari Visit

Atiku and a group of prominent politicians—including former Governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Gabriel Suswam (Benue), and Achike Udenwa (Imo)—visited Buhari at his Kaduna residence shortly after the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. The visit sparked a flurry of political interpretations, especially amid reports of emerging alliances ahead of the next presidential race.

However, El-Rufai, now a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), took to social media to clarify the visit, describing it as a simple gesture of post-Sallah goodwill and nothing more. His message was, however, laced with sacarsm directed at the camp of President Bola Tinubu who had in the recent past described him as irrelevant.

“FRIDAY MESSAGE: Former VP Atiku Abubakar, former Governors Aminu Tambuwal, Achike Udenwa, Gabriel Suswam, and I, among others, were in Kaduna for Post-Sallah courtesies to former President Muhammadu Buhari,” El-Rufai posted.

He noted that they joined Buhari for Juma’at prayers at the Yahaya Road Mosque and later enjoyed a “sumptuous lunch” at the former president’s home.

In a tone laced with sarcasm, El-Rufai added, “By the way, our adversaries should not lose any sleep. It is not about politics. It is about unity and brotherhood. And since we are all politically irrelevant, we just prayed and enjoyed lunch with our mentor.”

The remark, seen by many as a jab at those speculating about a grand political plot, comes at a time when El-Rufai is actively working to build a coalition within the opposition. After his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the SDP, he has been seen aligning with key political figures in a move believed to be aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Despite his claims of “political irrelevance,” El-Rufai’s recent moves suggest otherwise—and analysts continue to watch closely.
