A heart-wrenching story shared by a Nigerian man, Ifeanyichukwu, has shaken social media as he recounted how internet fraudsters—commonly known as Yahoo boys—shattered his family and led to the untimely death of his mother.

Reacting to a viral post on X (formerly Twitter) that attempted to trivialize the actions of Yahoo boys, Ifeanyichukwu poured out his pain and anger, describing the real-life consequences of online fraud.

The controversial post had read:
“Yahoo boys have done absolutely nothing for the hate they receive… they just wan collect Sandra and John money use am buy oversized polo man.”

Deeply triggered, Ifeanyichukwu replied with a chilling account of how his mother was scammed shortly after retirement, losing all her pension savings to internet fraudsters. The emotional trauma, he said, led her to suffer a stroke. Though she initially survived, subsequent strokes eventually claimed her life.

“She was never the same again,” he wrote, expressing how the betrayal and stress of the incident haunted his family.

Unfortunately, the tragedy did not end there. In January, his father’s ATM card got stuck in a bank’s machine. Before he could report it, criminals had already withdrawn ₦1.4 million using a POS terminal. Although the money was later refunded, the incident reopened old wounds and sparked fear that history might repeat itself.

“I and my brother were so afraid when it happened. It brought back all the trauma of our mum’s death,” he revealed.

Enraged, Ifeanyichukwu condemned not only the fraudsters but also social media users who attempt to defend or romanticize internet scams.

“Most of you scammers will rot in the deepest part of hell. God punish you people,” he wrote bluntly, attaching screenshots of the fraudulent transactions as proof.
