Tinubu Reportedly Set For Major Cabinet Shake-Up
By Gideon Ayeni

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is reportedly preparing for a fresh and far-reaching shake-up of his cabinet, marking what would be the second major overhaul since he assumed office in May 2023.
According to reports, the looming shake-up of the Tinubu cabinet will affect several ministers, Directors-General (DGs), and Managing Directors (MDs) of key federal agencies and parastatals. The move is said to be part of a broader strategy to reposition the administration and drive improved performance across critical sectors of the economy and governance.
“There is something about the power of the presidency; no one is above the president. Once you become a liability, you are gone like the fuel subsidy,” a highly placed source told reporters, indicating that underperformance or political baggage may no longer be tolerated following the proposed shake-up of the Tinubu cabinet.
While no official statement has been released, the planned changes are expected to touch both political appointees and technocrats serving in key government positions.
Insiders also believe that President Tinubu’s recent trip to France may be linked to the ongoing cabinet shake-up, as the foreign setting could provide a more discreet environment for consultations and decision-making away from the pressures of domestic political lobbying.
This development comes months after Tinubu’s first cabinet reshuffle in October 2024, which saw the appointment of seven new ministers, the dismissal of five others, and the reassignment of ten to new portfolios.
