A viral video making rounds on social media has stirred mixed reactions after a bride boldly rejected sprayed cash and demanded bundles of N1,000 notes from her groom during their traditional wedding.

The incident, which reportedly took place during a Yoruba traditional ceremony, captured the moment the groom began to perform the customary act of spraying money on his bride — a popular highlight in Yoruba engagements often overseen by a master of ceremony known as the “Alaga.”

However, the mood shifted when the bride turned down the individual N1,000 notes her groom was offering and demanded a full bundle of the currency instead. After some hesitation, the groom complied and handed over a bale of N1,000 notes. But the bride wasn’t satisfied — she insisted that one bundle wasn’t enough and requested a second one. The groom eventually obliged.

The bride’s bold request has since sparked a heated debate online. While some social media users found the moment humorous and praised her confidence, others criticized her, describing the act as excessive and distasteful.

“Marriage isn’t a cash-out scheme,” one user commented, while another wrote, “At least she knows her worth.”
