Drama unfolded in Emure, Ekiti State, as residents were seen celebrating the commissioning of a phone charging point launched by a member of the Ekiti State Environmental Protection Board, Bayo Ajayi.

In a viral video making the rounds on social media, Bayo Ajayi is seen proudly unveiling what appears to be a small charging station—essentially a wooden box fitted with multiple sockets—intended to serve as a communal phone charging hub for locals.

Speaking during the launch, Ajayi stated that the initiative was his own contribution to support the government and help residents power their mobile phones amid persistent electricity challenges in the area.

“This is my little way of supporting the government so our people can at least charge their phones,” he said.

However, while residents in the video could be seen clapping and hailing the gesture, the internet had a different reaction.

Netizens have taken to social media to lampoon the event, describing it as another example of Nigeria’s leadership crisis and misplaced priorities. Many expressed shock that a public official would organize a formal unveiling ceremony for what is essentially a basic extension box, instead of working towards long-term solutions like stable electricity.
