Nigeria Launches Online Passport Services In US, 3 Others
By Benjamin Abioye

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has extended its contactless biometric passport renewal system to four new countries — the United States, Brazil, Jamaica, and Mexico.
The announcement was made on Sunday, April 14, via the service’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. According to the statement, the system went live in the U.S. on April 11, while Brazil, Jamaica, and Mexico joined the rollout on April 14.
This upgrade is part of NIS’s broader push to improve service delivery for Nigerians living abroad by reducing the need for physical visits to passport centers.
“The application is currently available on the Google Play Store as NIS Mobile, allowing Nigerians to renew their passports without visiting any passport center for biometric enrollment,” the statement said.
An iOS version is expected to launch soon, with an enhanced app for both Android and iPhone users also in development to improve usability and performance.
With this new expansion, the contactless renewal platform now covers Nigerians living in Canada, the U.S., Brazil, Mexico, Jamaica, Europe, and Asia.
However, NIS clarified that the service is not yet active in Australia or Nigeria itself, but said rollout dates for those countries will be shared in the near future.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to using technology to bring faster, easier, and more efficient passport services to Nigerians worldwide.
