Presidency Gives New Directive On 2027 Campaign
By Gideon Ayeni

The Presidency has disavowed the sudden emergence of campaign billboards promoting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for the 2027 general elections, describing them as unauthorized and in violation of electoral laws.
In a statement released on Sunday night, the Presidency clarified that neither President Tinubu nor Vice President Shettima has given approval for any form of political campaign ahead of the 2027 election.
The statement also noted that the appearance of such materials is premature and illegal, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to release an official timetable permitting campaign activities.
The controversial 2027 campaign posters, some featuring First Lady Oluremi Tinubu alongside the President, have been seen in Abuja, Kano, and other prominent cities, raising questions about their origin and intent.
“These actions are not only misleading to the public but also undermine the sanctity and fairness of the electoral process,” the Presidency warned.
It emphasized that both the President and his Vice remain fully committed to delivering on their current mandate, with top priorities including stabilizing the economy, enhancing national security, improving infrastructure, and expanding social welfare programs.
Supporters and political groups behind the campaign materials were strongly advised to remove them and cease all unauthorized promotions.
“When the time is right and INEC officially flags off campaign activities, President Tinubu will directly communicate his political plans to Nigerians,” the statement concluded.
The warning comes amid growing concerns that premature campaigns could distract from governance and trigger political tensions across the country.
