Protesters Fubara Emergency Governance Rivers

A group of women in Rivers State staged a peaceful demonstration in Port Harcourt on Monday, expressing strong support for the state of emergency declared by the federal government.

Their march comes shortly after a separate protest by supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who had earlier criticized the emergency declaration announced by President Bola Tinubu on March 18, 2025.

Following the declaration, Governor Fubara, his deputy Professor Ngozi Odu, and the Rivers State House of Assembly were suspended. In their place, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas was appointed as the sole administrator of the state.

Upon assuming office, Ibas immediately suspended all political appointees and heads of government departments and agencies in the state.

During the latest protest, the women, dressed in white, carried placards with messages such as “State of Emergency Is Constitutional” and “No Tribal War in Rivers State, No More Fubara.”

One of the organisers, Hon. Gladys Nweke, a former vice chairman of Etche Local Government Area, stated that the emergency rule had significantly improved security in the state.

She said, “What we are doing here is a solidarity march in support of the state of emergency in Rivers State.

“Since the declaration of state of emergency in Rivers State, there has been peace. We no longer hear about killings and cult activities in the state.”
