Boy Loses Both Legs father Stepmother

A seven-year-old boy in Kaduna has lost both legs after being tortured with hot water by his father and stepmother over stolen biscuits.

A seven-year-old boy, Abubakar Sani, has tragically lost both his legs after enduring severe abuse from his father and stepmother in Lere Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

The abuse reportedly began after the boy was accused of stealing biscuits.

The incident was discovered after the child was rescued by the Kaduna State Ministry for Human Services and Social Development. The boy had been locked in a room for over 20 days without proper food or care, which worsened his condition. His legs had become severely infected, decaying and infested with maggots by the time authorities intervened.

During a visit to the Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, where the boy is currently receiving treatment, Commissioner Rabi Salisu described the boy’s condition as horrifying. “By the time the report got to us nine days ago, the boy’s legs were already decaying, infested with maggots. The doctors confirmed that amputation was the only option to save his life,” she said.

The boy’s father, Sani Maishago, allegedly tied the child’s legs and poured hot water on them as punishment. According to Commissioner Salisu, the boy’s father, with help from the stepmother, subjected him to this brutal treatment. Both the father and stepmother have been arrested and are currently in police custody. They will face charges in court once investigations are completed.

“The Kaduna State Government, through the Child Protection Law, is committed to safeguarding the rights of every child. We have zero tolerance for child abuse, molestation, domestic violence, and any form of assault against women and children,” Salisu added. She assured that the government would pursue justice fully to set an example for others.

The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Abdulkadir Musa, confirmed that the boy’s legs were amputated below the knee. “The boy’s legs had to be amputated, leaving him permanently disabled,” he explained. Musa also emphasized the tragic consequences of extreme punishment, warning that such actions could result in irreversible damage. He added that the boy would need artificial limbs for mobility in the future.

The case has shocked the local community and sparked outrage, with many calling for stricter enforcement of child protection laws in the region.
