Natasha Yahaya Bello Evidence

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has responded to a petition sent to the Inspector General of Police by former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, describing it as unnecessary and insisting she has solid evidence to support her serious claims.

The petition by Bello followed Natasha’s public allegation that both he and Senate President Godswill Akpabio were allegedly planning to have her assassinated. The former governor’s legal team condemned the claims as defamatory and inciting. In the petition, Bello urged the police to summon the senator and demand she provide credible evidence. “Where she fails to do so, cause her to be arrested and prosecuted… for criminal defamation, inciting public disturbance, and spreading false information injurious to public peace,” the petition stated.

In response, Natasha, through her lawyer, Victor Giwa, dismissed the petition. “They should calm down and allow the police to do their job. There is already a petition to that effect with the IGP,” he said. “To show that it wasn’t a mere allegation, Natasha has enough evidence to back up her point.”

The senator had earlier alleged during a visit to her constituency in Okehi, Kogi State, that the Senate President asked Bello to “assassinate her in Kogi State rather than in Abuja.”

Bello’s lawyers, however, argued that such public accusations were dangerous. In a separate letter, they demanded a public apology and retraction, warning that the statements could mislead the public and stir political and ethnic unrest.

They further cited several laws, including the Cybercrimes Act and Penal Code, as grounds for legal action. “By accusing our client of plotting an assassination… Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has gravely damaged our client’s reputation, misled the public, and attempted to incite ethnic and political distrust,” Bello’s legal team stated.

They emphasized that failure to address the matter firmly could encourage further use of political platforms to promote misinformation and tension.
