APC Rep Asks Plateau Leaders To Rally Round Gov Against Attackers
By Imman Onyero

All Progressives Congress, APC leader in Plateau State and member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Yusuf Gagdi, has called for a united front to combat the attacks against communities in Plateau State, saying that the citizenry must not play politics with human lives.
Gagdi frowned at those trivializing the security situation in Plateau State by calling it a communal crisis as he challenged them to name the communities that at war with any other community.
Gagdi collaborated with the stance of Governor Caleb Mutfwang that the attacks shouldn’t be trivialized, noting that the porous borders expose the State to more serious security threats.
Speaking in a television interview, Gagdi lamented the persistent attacks in Bassa, Bokkos, Mangu, parts of Kanam, and parts of Wase, saying, “Plateau crisis means different things to different people: Attacks, killings, genocides, based on the perspectives you are looking at. To me, it is not communal; it is not religious. It is criminal.
“If it is communal, let anyone within and outside Plateau come and tell us the tribes that are fighting. A tribe in Bassa was attacked some days ago, tribes in Bokkos were attacked last week, and tribes were attacked in Mangu. Jhar people are attacked from the forest in Kanam. In a day in 2022, 147 people were killed in my constituency. Among the number, only four were Christians.
“Those who attacked them were bandits, the Fulanis militia who ran away from Kebbi, Sokoto, Taraba to the forest of Kanam. Will you say that is a communal or religious attack? In my opinion, anyone who defines the Plateau issue as communal is not fair to Plateau. Plateau issues are criminal and genocide.
“For someone to descend on communities that know nothing, if your cattle are rustled, they are due process to follow in apprehending the criminal syndicates. The syndicates that rustle cows cut across almost all the tribes including the Fulanis themselves. There are criminals in all tribes.”
He pointed out suspicious actions, and noted, “How can we be staying together and house A, B, C will be attacked and house D, E are exempted and then house F, G are attacked? It makes people to suspect that the people that their houses were spared might know something about the attack.”
He explained that there is no justification for innocent communities to be attacked over issues they knew nothing about, and appealed that security issues in the Kanam local government of the State should not be taken for granted.
Gagdi further stressed, “I agree with the Governor that Plateau attacks are coordinated terror. We are not playing politics with the lives of the people…”
