Ondo Police Deny First Lady’s Convoy Killed 7-Year-Old Girl
By Benjamin Abioye

The Ondo State Police Command has clarified that the 7-year-old girl who died in Akure was not hit by a vehicle from the First Lady’s convoy but by a hit-and-run driver.
The Ondo State Police Command has made it clear that the tragic death of a seven-year-old girl in Akure was not connected to the convoy of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
According to a statement from the Police Command’s spokesperson, Olusola Ayanlade, the First Lady was in the state on Thursday, April 17, 2025, to give out empowerment items and equipment as part of her visit.
Addressing the rumors, the police stated: “Eyewitness accounts and preliminary investigations conducted by the Ondo State Police Command have confirmed that the incident was caused by a hit-and-run driver operating an unregistered white Lexus vehicle — not by any vehicle belonging to or associated with the First Lady’s convoy.”
The police also provided further details on how the incident happened. “A witness who observed the hit-and-run pursued the fleeing vehicle on a motorcycle immediately after the incident, which occurred around the Oba Ile area of Akure. These accounts have been corroborated by several individuals at the scene as well as by the parents of the deceased,” the statement continued.
To ensure full accountability, the Commissioner of Police personally visited the grieving family and assured them of a thorough investigation. “At no point was the First Lady’s convoy involved in this tragedy,” the statement emphasized.
The police expressed their sympathies to the family and encouraged the public to help with any information that could aid the ongoing investigation. “The command commiserated with the bereaved family and urged the general public to cooperate with us as we bring the perpetrator of the hit-and-run to justice,” the statement said.
They added a call for assistance from the public: “Also, we urge anyone with any useful information to please come forward or report to the nearest police station or security post nearest to them while we hunt for the killer.”
