Shettima Debunks New Rumours Of Rift With Tinubu
By Gideon Ayeni

The Presidency has firmly denied viral claims suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima was recently denied access to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, describing the story as “mischievous,” “fabricated,” and completely divorced from reality.
In a statement issued on Saturday, April 19, 2025, by Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), the report was dismissed as a deliberate attempt to sow discord at the highest levels of government.
According to Nkwocha, the false report—published by unnamed blogs—claimed that armed military units allegedly prevented the Vice President from entering the Villa. He described the claim as the “wildest expression of wishful thinking” and said it reflects nothing but desperation from individuals trying to mislead the public.
“The recent publication… alleging that armed military units have barricaded the Vice President from accessing the Presidential Villa is not only the wildest expression of wishful thinking but a clear indication that the purveyors of these tales have exhausted both ink and imagination,” the statement read.
The Presidency emphasized that no such incident ever occurred and warned that such tales are part of a wider pattern of coordinated misinformation campaigns aimed at creating the illusion of friction between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Shettima.
Nkwocha pointed out that this is not the first attempt by political mischief-makers to stir unnecessary controversy. He recalled that earlier in the week, the Presidency also dismissed false reports about campaign posters circulating with the images of President Tinubu.
“These stories reflect a desperate attempt to undermine the President and his Deputy’s fidelity to the rule of law and our constitution,” the statement said.
The Presidency maintained that there is a strong bond of trust and cooperation between Tinubu and Shettima, and that the Vice President remains laser-focused on supporting the administration’s agenda without entertaining distractions.
“He does not have the luxury of time for distractions, particularly those born of the imagination of individuals intent on creating smoke where there is no fire,” Nkwocha added.
The statement concluded by commending Nigerians who continue to reject fake news and urging media platforms to verify sensational claims with credible sources before publication
“No amount of falsehood or manufactured tension can shake the foundation of that democratic mandate. Not under the watch of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” it affirmed.
Nigerians have been advised to disregard such “malicious publications” and to continue to rely on authentic channels for accurate information about the government’s activities.
