Chelsea Leap Into Top Five After Beating Fulham 2-1

Chelsea pulled off a dramatic comeback to defeat Fulham 2-1 in a tense London derby. Despite trailing for most of the match, two late goals secured a vital win for the visitors.

Fulham took the lead in the 20th minute when Alex Iwobi finished calmly after Ryan Sessegnon stole the ball from Reece James. The hosts dominated the first half and looked like they might complete a historic league double over their local rivals. Although Andreas Pereira had an early effort ruled out for offside, Fulham stayed on the front foot.

The turning point came late in the second half. On Sunday, Chelsea found energy from the bench as Fulham began to tire. In the 84th minute, Tyrique George struck a powerful shot from just outside the box to level the game. Only minutes later, Pedro Neto completed the comeback with a brilliant finish into the top corner, leaving Fulham’s goalkeeper Bernd Leno no chance.

Fulham’s coach came under scrutiny for his decisions, especially the choice to substitute Sasa Lukic. “Lukic had kept Cole Palmer quiet all game, and suddenly Chelsea scored twice from the area Lukic had covered,” an observer noted. Lukic’s replacement, Tom Cairney, failed to make an impact.

Reece James also had a difficult afternoon. Starting at right-back, he was caught off guard for Fulham’s goal and struggled to adapt between defense and midfield. “I don’t decide where I play,” James had said recently. “It’s up to the manager and the rest is down to us.” He was taken off at half-time after a poor showing.

The win lifted Chelsea into the top five, boosting their hopes of Champions League football next season. But with tough games still ahead—including clashes with Liverpool, Newcastle, and Manchester United—the race for Europe remains wide open.

Fulham, meanwhile, were left disappointed. After a strong start and dreams of a famous double over Chelsea, they ended the day empty-handed.
