APC Sets Nomination Fees For Lagos Local Government Elections
By Benjamin Abioye

The APC has revealed the nomination fees for candidates in the forthcoming Lagos State local government election, offering discounts for youths and waivers for Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWDs).
Ahead of the Lagos State local government elections scheduled for July 12, 2025, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has released the nomination and administrative fees for candidates.
These guidelines were made public on Tuesday and signed by Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, the APC chairman, and Dr. Adeola Jokomba, the secretary.
According to the announcement, individuals vying for the chairmanship position will be required to pay a ₦5 million nomination fee, with an additional ₦500,000 administrative charge. For female candidates seeking the chairmanship role, the nomination fee is set at ₦2.5 million, while the administrative fee remains at ₦500,000.
In a move aimed at encouraging youth participation, the APC has introduced a 50% discount on the nomination fee for aspirants under 40 years old. However, these young aspirants will still need to pay the full administrative fee of ₦500,000. Additionally, the party has waived the nomination fee for aspirants with disabilities, who will only be required to pay a reduced administrative charge of ₦250,000.
For councillorship aspirants, male candidates will need to pay ₦1 million for the nomination form and ₦100,000 for the administrative fee. Female candidates will pay ₦250,000 for the nomination form and ₦100,000 for the administrative fee. Youths aspiring for councillorship positions will receive a 50% discount on the nomination fee, but the administrative fee will remain the same. Persons living with disabilities (PLWDs) will be able to collect nomination forms for free, though they will need to pay a ₦50,000 administrative fee.
There will be no separate fee for the Vice Chairman position, and all fees should be paid via bank draft in favor of the APC, Lagos State.
The party further clarified the process for submission. Chairmanship candidates must submit a nomination form with endorsements from five registered party members who are also registered voters in the respective ward and local government. For councillorship aspirants, 20 endorsements from registered voters within their ward are required.
The guidelines also emphasize eligibility criteria, including the requirement that aspirants must have at least a school certificate or its equivalent, with higher qualifications being an added advantage. The minimum age for council and LCDA chairmanship aspirants is set at 30 years, while councillorship aspirants must be at least 25 years old.
To ensure active participation, the APC requires all aspirants to submit evidence of party membership and demonstrate active support for the party. A portfolio of loyalty to the party is also necessary. All aspirants must sign the party’s Code of Conduct, and only those cleared by the Screening Committee will be eligible to contest in the party’s primaries.
The APC also reminded officeholders who wish to contest that they must step down from their positions at least 30 days before the election or primary. Lastly, all aspirants are expected to comply with constitutional requirements related to the public office they intend to pursue.
