Samuel Eto’o Faces Criminal Charges Over Misused Football Funds
By Benjamin Abioye

Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), is facing criminal charges for allegedly misusing billions of CFA francs meant for football development in Cameroon.
Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), is now facing criminal charges related to the alleged misuse of public football funds.
He has been officially summoned to appear before the Special Criminal Court, which is investigating these serious accusations.
Several football clubs in Cameroon have accused Eto’o of embezzling money meant to support the growth of the sport. One of the leading voices in the case is Justin Tagouh, a former chairman of Bamboutos FC, whose team recently pulled out of the national league.
Tagouh has claimed that money from the government, which was supposed to help organize competitions, pay referees, and support clubs, was not properly shared. “Between 2022 and 2024, several billion CFA francs were allocated to support competitions, referees, and clubs,” he said.
He further alleged that the federation kept this money hidden from club leaders and later misused it. “Fecafoot has failed to provide a transparent explanation for the use of these public funds. The money is gone, and instead of returning it, they continue to demand supporting documents as a delay tactic. This is why several club officials have now referred the case to the Special Criminal Court,” he added.
These criminal charges are likely to deepen problems within Cameroon’s football community, as more people begin to question how Fecafoot manages its finances.
