Next-Of-Kin Claim: Reactions Follow Obi Cubana Family Drama

Popular Nigerian businessman and nightlife mogul, Obi Cubana, is currently trending online after a subtle but controversial post announcing his first biological son, Alex Iyiegbu, as his official next of kin — a move many interpreted as a public snub to his adopted son, Chidi.

The drama began when Chidi, in what many now believe was a light-hearted TikTok video, claimed to be Obi Cubana’s next of kin. The post quickly gained attention, with some netizens even hailing the young man for the bold declaration.

However, things took a sharp turn when Obi Cubana made his own post, sharing a photo of his son Alex with the caption, “Next of Kin .” The timing and tone of the post appeared to many as a direct response to Chidi’s video. Shortly after, Chidi deleted his post — a move that left fans divided.

While some Nigerians on social media accused Obi Cubana of embarrassing Chidi publicly, others argued that he had every right to clearly state the succession line in his family, especially as Chidi doesn’t bear the Iyiegbu surname.

“This could’ve been handled privately,” one user wrote. “The boy was clearly joking. You didn’t need to make a statement like that online.”

Another added, “Let’s be honest, Obi did the right thing. Blood is blood. That boy needed a reminder.”

Some users also suggested that family politics might be at play, speculating that Obi Cubana’s wife could have influenced the public declaration.
