Oborevwori to APC

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has officially left the PDP for the APC after a private meeting in Asaba on Wednesday.

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has officially switched from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major shake-up in the state’s political scene.

The announcement came shortly after a private meeting at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday evening.

His Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, confirmed the defection during a phone conversation, explaining that the governor made his decision after extensive discussions with key political figures. According to Ahon, the move is intended to serve the long-term interests of the state and foster development.

Governor Oborevwori, who became Delta’s governor through the PDP in the 2023 elections, was warmly welcomed into the APC by prominent party leaders. Many observers are calling this a well-calculated move to position himself more strategically ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While the defection has stirred excitement within APC circles, it has also raised eyebrows. Some political commentators allege that the defection is to shield himself and his political allies from future scrutiny.

However, beyond that GWG.ng reports that the internal dissensions within the PDP, particularly the strife over the position of Nationall Secretary made it illogical for the governor to keep on flying the flag of the PDP given the fact that there may be no valid person to sign the form for re-election.

Now that the rumors have been confirmed, the spotlight is on what this means for Delta State politics—and whether it will deepen or heal the state’s political divisions ahead of 2027.
