Osimhen’s Manchester United Move Hits Financial Wall

Victor Osimhen’s possible move to Manchester United has hit a major roadblock due to financial restrictions. The club is currently dealing with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), which limit how much a team can lose financially over three years. Because of this, Osimhen is not among United’s top targets for the upcoming summer transfer window.

These financial rules are strict. For example, Everton faced a point deduction last season for overspending. Even though Osimhen could help solve United’s goal-scoring issues, the club is now focused on signing Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers instead.

Reports suggest United is ready to pay Cunha’s release clause of £62.5 million to boost their attack. While Osimhen might have been considered as an additional option, the Nigerian forward—currently on loan at Galatasaray—would cost around £51 million. More importantly, his high wage demands make the move difficult.

There were earlier rumors that Osimhen, 26, had already agreed to join Manchester United. It was said that the club offered him a massive salary of €20 million per year. In fact, Turkish journalist Ali Naci Küçük reported that both Manchester United and Juventus proposed a net offer of £17.1 million yearly, or about £330,000 weekly after tax. This would have made him United’s highest-paid player, with a gross weekly wage of about £660,000 before tax.

However, United might be rethinking this plan. Transfer expert David Ornstein explained that the club’s main focus is still Cunha, although personal terms are yet to be finalized.

In terms of other striker options, Manchester United is reportedly interested in Liam Delap from Ipswich Town. His release clause is £30 million, but it only becomes active if Ipswich is relegated. Delap is also being watched by other clubs like Chelsea, and he is expected to decide his future before the European Under-21 Championship.

Meanwhile, Osimhen continues to impress on loan. So far this season, he has scored 30 goals and delivered seven assists in just 35 matches across all competitions.
