In a notable development ahead of the Lagos Local Government elections, the Agege Youth Vanguard has purchased the nomination and expression of interest forms for Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa, the son of the Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.

The group endorsed Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa as their preferred candidate for the role of chairman of Agege Local Government.

Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, who holds a degree in Accounting and Finance from Hertfordshire, has gained recognition from the group for his competence and leadership potential. According to Ismaeel Garba, the coordinator of Agege Youth Vanguard, a thorough background check was carried out on all the candidates contesting for the position before concluding that Abdul-Ganiyu was the best choice. Garba emphasized that his work experience stood out compared to the other aspirants.

During a press conference held in Agege on Thursday, April 24, Garba clarified that the group’s support for Abdul-Ganiyu was not based solely on the fact that his father is the Speaker. Rather, they expressed confidence in his leadership qualities, his contributions to the community, and his engagement with the youth. Garba pointed out the success of Abdul-Ganiyu’s sports academy, which has provided opportunities for young people in the area, including securing international contracts for them.

The group reiterated that their backing of Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa was a reflection of the need for a new generation of leadership in Agege. They see his candidacy as an opportunity to further the progress in the local government and drive positive change. “The journey to the promised land starts with ensuring that the council does not fall into the wrong hands,” Garba stated, stressing that Agege deserves the best leadership possible.

Additionally, the group highlighted the importance of youth involvement in governance, seeing Abdul-Ganiyu’s candidacy as a step toward strengthening progressive leadership in the community. Garba urged that Agege should not be deprived of its best chance for advancement simply because of his father’s political position. He concluded, “The next chairman and councillors will manage the affairs of millions of residents and business operators, and we must ensure they are competent and committed.”

This move comes amid political discussions, with the Agege Youth Vanguard showing their readiness to support other qualified candidates for councillorship positions. They have promised to continue their commitment to backing individuals they believe are capable of representing the community’s interests.

The group’s efforts reflect a growing trend of youth involvement in politics, with their goal being to create a more inclusive, progressive, and effective local government.
