Defection: Alex Otti Explains Meeting With Uzodimma
By Gideon Ayeni

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has finally react to his viral deflection rumors going round on social media platforms that was fueled by a meeting he held with Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State.
Alex Otti has debunked viral claims suggesting he is planning to dump the Labour Party for the All Progressives Congress (APC) following a meeting with Governor Hope Uzodimma in Abuja.
He described the suggestions as unfounded and politically motivated.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, the governor reaffirmed his loyalty to the Labour Party, the platform on which he was overwhelmingly elected in 2023. Otti maintained that he has no intention of defecting, contrary to reports alleging a secret meeting with Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, to negotiate a political move.
Otti dismissed the rumour as “baseless and completely false,” urging members of the public to disregard it. He assured Abians that he remains focused on delivering good governance and would never make a political decision of such magnitude without wide consultation.
“There is no truth whatsoever to the claim that Governor Otti held any political meeting with Governor Uzodimma or any APC leader. The only encounter between both men recently was at the birthday celebration of Governor Uzodimma’s twin daughters, which came after the National Economic Council meeting on April 24. It was purely a social event,” Ekeoma clarified.
The media aide added that while Otti’s performance continues to generate national attention, speculation about his political future should not distract from the task of rebuilding Abia State.
He cautioned political actors and commentators against stoking tension over the 2027 election, noting that governance—not campaign drama—should remain the focus.
“Governor Otti is committed to the Labour Party and to the people of Abia State. When it comes to any critical decision about the future, it will be done with transparency and in the best interest of Abians,” the statement concluded.
