In Jigawa, a 20-year-old groom and three of his friends have been arrested after his newlywed wife tragically died during a coerced sexual encounter, prompting an ongoing police investigation.
In a tragic incident in Jigawa State, a 20-year-old groom, Auwal Abdulwahab, and three of his friends have been arrested for allegedly causing the death of his newlywed wife after coercing her into non-consensual sexual activity.
The incident occurred on April 26, 2025, at around 10:00 PM in Tungo village, located within the Albasu District of Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area.
The Jigawa State Police spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the arrest and shared details about the case. He stated that Abdulwahab, along with his three friends, Nura Basiru, Muttaka Lawan, and Hamisu Musa, entered the matrimonial home with the intention of forcing the bride into unwanted sexual acts.
Shiisu explained, “The groom is alleged to have conspired with his three friends, namely Nura Basiru, Muttaka Lawan, and Hamisu Musa, and entered into their matrimonial home with the intention of coercing his bride into non-consensual sexual activity, while in the process, the said wife died.”
Preliminary investigations suggest that the couple had disagreements about marital relations before the incident took place. After receiving a distress call, police officers responded quickly and arrived at the scene. The woman’s body was then taken to Gumel General Hospital, where a medical examination confirmed her death.
The body was subsequently handed over to her family for burial rites, while Abdulwahab and his three friends were taken into custody. The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State, CP AT Abdullahi, has instructed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Dutse for a more thorough and confidential investigation.
SP Shiisu further added, “After the investigation is completed, all suspects will be prosecuted accordingly. The suspects will face two charges under relevant laws of the jurisdiction, including criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.” The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities are committed to ensuring justice for the deceased.
