Nigerian Lady Reveals Visa Joke That Took Her Family To America
By Benjamin Abioye

A Nigerian lady has revealed how her entire family relocated to the U.S. after casually playing the visa lottery game as a joke and unexpectedly winning.
A young Nigerian lady has shared how her family moved to the United States after playing the American visa lottery—something they initially did just for fun.
She revealed that this surprising event happened many years ago, but she still remembers it clearly and thinks about it often. What started as a lighthearted activity ended up changing their lives forever.
“Every day I think about how my parents moved to America by luck. We played the visa lottery game as a joke, and next thing you know, we won and moved within a year,” she said.
Some people who saw her story online doubted how real it was. But she explained it in more detail to clear up the confusion. “Everyone keeps saying ‘as a joke,’ but I remember the day we applied so vividly. We were at a cyber café, genuinely thinking it was just banter. We even forgot we had applied. Then, a year later, we received the email saying we had won, and the rest is history.”
Her post quickly went viral, attracting many reactions from people online who either related to her story or were surprised by it.
One user, @TheManAfricano, commented, “Most ppl that I know that came here by visa lottery played by luck. They even played it on some people’s behalf, and they were lucky.”
Another, @Megadoings, said, “Everything in Life is Luck. Congratulations again.”
@Tony___Cruz gave a different view: “I prefer the word favour, if it was luck it will mean your parents were the only one’s who played it. But when many people played it and your family ended up winning. I will say that’s favour.”
Others shared personal experiences. @mamaOlanna said, “Similar story. One minute I’m picking my desk for my second year at federal girls owerri, and then next thing I’m told is, we’re moving to America tomorrow loll.”
@Hmp2million recalled, “That American lottery era was golden. We had a family friend that moved to the US with that route since 2003, now the whole clan are Americans.”
However, not everyone had the same luck. @vwedechidiamadi wrote, “Meanwhile, my father was busy tearing up my sister’s form whenever she tried to apply.”
Overall, the post not only brought nostalgia for some, but also gave hope to others who still dream of finding a better life abroad—maybe even through luck or favour.
