Six PDP lawmakers from Delta State defected to APC over unresolved party crises, while two Labour Party reps from Enugu crossed over to PDP on Tuesday during plenary.

Six lawmakers from Delta State have left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), while two lawmakers from Enugu State have moved from the Labour Party (LP) to the PDP.

On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, the Speaker of the House of Representatives announced their defection during plenary in Abuja.

The six Delta lawmakers who defected to APC are Victor Nwokolo, Julius Pondi, Thomas Ereyitomi, Nicholas Mutu, Ukodhiko Jonathan, and Nnamdi Ezechi. The two lawmakers from Enugu State who joined PDP are Mark Obetta and Denis Nnamdi.

The lawmakers explained that their decision was due to ongoing internal issues in their parties. They cited unresolved conflicts and parallel leadership in their states as reasons for leaving.

“The party in our state has been in crisis. There are different factions, and it’s affecting our work. After discussing with those who voted us in, we decided it’s best to move,” one of the defectors said.

Just two weeks earlier, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had also dumped the PDP for the APC.
