Bill Gates Foundation 2045

Bill Gates has revealed a $200 billion plan to advance public health over the next 20 years, with the Gates Foundation scheduled to close in 2045, driven by urgency and opportunity.

The Gates Foundation has announced plans to allocate more than $200 billion over the next 20 years to enhance its public health mission.

The organization also revealed that it will be shutting down in 2045. This change comes as an update to its original charter, which had previously planned for the foundation to wind down 20 years after Bill Gates’s death.

The decision to accelerate its efforts is driven by a sense of urgency and the opportunities provided by advancements in artificial intelligence. While governments reduce aid funding, these technological advancements have increased the potential to improve human well-being, according to the foundation.

Bill Gates, 69, shared in a blog post, “During the first 25 years of the Gates Foundation—powered in part by the generosity of Warren Buffett—we gave away more than $100 billion.” He added, “Over the next two decades, we will double our giving.”

A chart in the blog showed that Gates’s net worth would drop by 99% over the next 20 years. Currently, Gates is listed as the 13th richest person in the world, with a net worth of \$112.6 billion. He further stated, “People will say a lot of things about me when I die, but I am determined that ‘he died rich’ will not be one of them. There are too many urgent problems to solve for me to hold onto resources that could be used to help people.”

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation was established in 2000, the same year Gates stepped down as CEO of Microsoft. Melinda French Gates left the foundation in 2024, three years after their divorce.

Gates highlighted the foundation’s accomplishments, including efforts to eradicate polio and the development of a rotavirus vaccine that has helped reduce child deaths from diarrhea by 75%. He expressed hope that by increasing their giving, they could help end preventable deaths of mothers and children while lifting millions of people out of poverty.

In addition to the Gates Foundation’s work, Bill Gates plans to continue funding initiatives aimed at expanding access to affordable energy and advancing research into Alzheimer’s disease.
